St. Pete just elected Bill Foster, a creationist, as mayor in part because he played the victim of intolerance. The St. Pete Times ran with this spin on the criticism of Foster's attempt to get the school board to act on his views. (Their main effort was to smear Kathleen Ford as a racist.) Karl Rove would have loved this tactic. Turn your opponents strength into a weakness and make your supporters angry, afraid and unable to see through your propaganda.
