Gerrymandering in Florida Must End

Whenever a new political party, whether Democrat or Republican, grabs the reigns of power, new district lines are drawn. The fat cats in Tallahassee lick their lips and use data revealing voter registration trends and election results to gather together those voters who will keep them in office.
The boundaries are often ridiculous, one side of the street represented by one guy while neighbors are represented by someone else. This helps those in power stay in power.
When Republicans are the majority, they redraw the lines while Dems cry about it. After a few years, the public gets sick of their shit and elects more Democrats. Then Repubs cry about the new districts that are all of a sudden unfair.
This is called “gerrymandering.” Like eating lobster, butchering the English language in a charming way, and spitting on the side of road, this nasty habit hails from the land I love.
But I’m ready to see it go. And I’m not the only one.
Moderate legislators cannot pass common-sense and progressive legislation, even when it’s supported by a majority of Floridians, because of the way their districts are drawn.
Groups like FairDistrictsFlorida.org and Equality Florida are gathering support for, in their words, “Two Florida Constitutional amendments (that) are required to fix this problem (one for state districts and one for Federal districts).”
Sign this petition and forward this post to five friends. Let’s put an end to gerrymandering.

I totally agree with you here. I am actually jealous of your congressional districts. They look *gasp* vaguely connected in comparison to Illinois districts. But at least our former first (state)lady is on a reality show.
Good luck. Federal lawsuits are about the only way you’ll get anywhere with that. So, hire a lawyer who does that sort of thing, and get with it!
…and, John, what this reality show of which you speak?
A few months ago I signed a petition at the library about this exact thing.
The show on NBC is “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here”. Former (IL) gov Rod (that should have been our first clue) tried to get on the show but the judge involved with his corruption case denied letting him leave the country so his wife went in his place.
FYI, I’ve never watched it.
