Contributing to Creative Loafing and My Stance on Torture

Lots of stuff going on in Kate’s world.

Had a contributor’s meeting with the peeps at Creative Loafing.

Because I’m one of their contributors.

Don’t hate me because I rock. Just visit CL’s site or get the paper and behold my glory.

Anyway, as I drove home afterwards, it occurred to me why I love Tampa so goddamn much. It’s not just the beaches and family. It doesn’t simply have to do with a red hot career. It isn’t only because my closest friends are all around me or because smoothies and love toys are incredibly cheap. And it isn’t because I finally look good in a bathing suit.

All that helps. But what really counteracts the humidity, Lutz rednecks, and silly-stupid politics is that I am connected to my community here. I love being part of the conversation. The people here value what I do and I feel all fulfilled and shit. Sitting in between Wayne Garcia and Jim Johnson – not only was I turned on, but realized more than ever that my voice matters.

Plus it’s way cool to be at a meeting where the political editor uses the word “pussy” and no one quotes a Bible verse or threatens to sue.

Seriously. Suck it Colorado Springs.

Speaking of torture, what the fuck is up with our country?

If I hear one more person say that we have to use unusual means in unusual times, I might just blow a brain cell. Our laws aren’t just for when times are good. If we can’t follow them when under pressure or threat of attack, what the fuck good are they?

And didn’t our forefathers write the damn thing when relations with Great Britain weren’t exactly wonderful and threat of attack immenint?

For the love of Christ. We executed Japanese soldiers for waterboarding our men during WWII and they were under threat of nuclear attack.

Are we for torture or against it?

I’m with Shepard Smith. We are better than that.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go hang with my family and enjoy a cocktail.

Have I mentioned it’s damn good to be home?
