Right Wing Whack Jobs
Alexandra Pelosi’s new documentary Right America: Feeling Wronged is simultaneously frightening and funny. She talks to the kind of people who spend eight hours waiting in oppressive heat just to catch a glimpse of Sarah Palin. Then these same people ignorantly fantasize about eight years of even more oppressive heat.
Check it.
This kid reminds my of former students before they became my students.
I know some of you will write to me that these people are the exception and not the rule. I disagree. Over 58 million of them voted against Barack Obama in November and this documentary represents their thinking in a brutally honest way.
Plus I’ve seen pictures of the Florida State Fair. Who do *you* think is dipping bacon in chocolate?
Speaking of brutally honest bacon…what’s up with Michele Bachmann? Is she an exception as well?

I saw a few minutes — specifically around where that kid from the second video appeared, forward. It’s just… Wow. Just… Wow.
he can’t spell Socialism, he can’t define it either. He tries to employ truthiness in comparing it to Communism and Facism/Nazism.
But this is why certain powers are so ok with education cuts: an ignorant populous is easier to govern than an informed populous. Those driven by fears and gut feelings instead of fact and truth? They’re in a position to be swayed more by saber rattling and prejudices. They’re easier to be led by the likes of Rush, Glenn and Bill who feed the fears and ignorance with rhetoric of the simplest variety.
Obama’s first press conference had “No substance” from what Bill O’Reilly crowed. And yet you place Obama’s first conference next to any of Bush’s and you’d probably have Bill crowing about how great it was… Simply to sooth the fact no one watching Bill knows what to expect except Bill’s opinion being what they should agree with.
It’s amazing the amount of really stupid people in this country…simply amazing. When they open their mouths, I just want to puke.

So true, Tam (get out that waste basket).
This(NSFW) is scary. As is this.
It’s an easy game to play, Kate.
And a fun one, too.
Although, in the clips you provided, John, there is an absence of hate.
In Pelosi’s film, those rednecks are all over the N word and are repeating lies about Obama being a Muslim and taking the oath of office with his hand on a Koran.
Just sayin’…
Great. So stupidity is excusable if it isn’t hate based. (and from the clips you provided, it isn’t)
I wonder how many people hate Sarah Palin?
I am reminded of the phrase “Stupid is as stupid does” from Forrest Gump (a variation of the ancient “Handsome is as handsome does”). Stupid knows no ideology, no race, no gender. You could go anywhere where there is a mass of people, find a couple of uneducated and/or unthinking people, spouting the latest talking point (or derivative thereof) from the media which soothes their prejudices.
What this argument here seems to point out is that there is a lack of critical thinking about politics in the average populace as well as a lack of civic knowledge, even among the “educated” portions of the populace. Too often sloganeering and focus on the inconsequential is what passes for political discourse in the media and (therefore?) the populace.
I spent the month of October in the Zephyrhills/Dade City area, specifically to knock on doors and make phone calls for the Obama campaign and saw this on both sides.
This brought to my mind that there is an absence of civics education in the schools. What happened to it?
Just a side note, I wonder how many Republican voters could name the last Republican Majority Leader and Speaker of the House, never mind the last Republican chairman of the House Committee on Financial Services (answers: a. Frist b. Hastert c. Oxley).
Mark, you have it right. While I’m critical of the videos above, there were and are videos of Obama supporters from the election cycle painting him as the cure all. Not only will Barack Obama be a better president but “He’ll pay my gas bills!” and other such statements from those supporting the Democratic Candidate (they likely would have suggested the same for Hillary or another inspiring nominee from the left).
And while your questiona bout the last Republican leaders holds merit – try applying it to local offices too. It’s absurd how many people voted for Buddy Johnson just because… well, his name ID was high. Those interviewed on the street by Sharon Zink at the St. Pete Times didn’t even know the Supervisor of Elections office was going to be on the ballot — or who Buddy’s opponent was to be.
Ignorance knows no party in the end, is my point.
John in Il. I said stupid people, I never catagorized them as being anything else but stupid. There are stupid people everywhere.
and I agreed with you, Tam.
