Senator Sobel Introduces Domestic Partnership Legislation
The Senate’s version, SB 1642, will have a version in the House sponsored by Rep. Richard Steinberg.
Many polls show 77% of Floridians favor benefits for unmarried couples, even at a time when a woman is suing a South Florida hospital for refusing to grant her access to her partner while she lay dying. This case proves that gay couples are especially vulnerable when there is no legal protections for their families.
When passed, this bill will make sure that committed, unmarried couples in Florida have access to basic legal rights like visiting each other in the hospital.
