Oppose Loaded and Concealed Guns in our National Parks

At dinner last night, Oldest told us about the latest President he’s reading about.
Reagan.
Ewww.
So far, he’s gone through books about Taft, Lincoln, Jefferson (my favorite), Kennedy, and Truman. What has he learned about Reagan? Oldest told us about when Reagan was shot. Apparently, the old man said to his doctors, “I hope you’re Republicans.”
Dude *was* a charmer.
Then Oldest started talking about James Brady and how he was hurt in an attempt to assassinate Reagan. I talked with both my children about how tragedy can be turned to triumph if you take something bad, learn from it, and make the world a better place.
That’s what Sarah and James Brady did by forming the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Oh, relax for a minute. No one wants to take away your guns. The Brady campaign simply seeks to enact common sense gun control laws.
In one of his more destructive parting shots, George Bush changed a rule that prohibited guns in national parks. The Obama White House has been silent while the Dept. of Interior reviews the issue.
Do we really want loaded and concealed weapons in our national parks? Especially if, when ushering in this last minute rule change, the Bush administration violated federal law?
Call the Obama White House (202-456-1111) and express yourself. Support the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence – it’s the one good thing to come out of Ronald Reagan’s presidency.

The people that you should be wary of are the ones who are already armed and using the parks to manufacture and traffic illegal substances, not the people who seek to defend themselves in the backcountry.
