Tampa Bay Has Sunshine – and Syphilis

STD rates are rising in Hillsborough County and the Florida Catholic Conference wants an abstinence-only curriculum “arguing that children who learn about contraceptives in school are more sexually active.”

Kids get bored and have sex. If they have condoms on them, they are more likely to use them. If they know how to use them properly, STDs (and unplanned pregnancies) can be avoided.

Thousands of women become infertile each year because of untreated chlamydia and gonorrhea infections, said John M. Douglas Jr., director of the CDC’s Division of STD Prevention.

Okay, this part doesn’t bother me.

That’s right.

I’m okay with poor and/or uneducated women *not* breeding. I’d prefer they *choose* not to have children, though. So let’s get condoms in the classrooms.

Pee-ronto.
