Is Everyone Here Bananas?

I volunteered to be Room Parent for both my children's classrooms.

Cause I don't have enough going on.

Not sure exactly what the job entails, but I do remember from "back home" that when the holidays come around, Room Parent coordinates the purchasing of the teacher's present.

Yesterday, I took it upon myself to call every student's house, from both classes, to ask their parents if they'd like to participate in buying a present for Mrs. So-and-So before Winter Break.

Lots of answering machines.

The second to last household I called had this outgoing message:

"Hello, you've reached Cuckoo For Cocoa Puffs. If you speak English, please continue to listen to this message. If you don't speak English, learn the language of this country immediately. United States soldiers died for you to enjoy our freedoms. Jesus Christ died for your sins. Show both your respect. God bless America and God bless the American soldier."

That's just... just... damn. I don't know what to call it. Male or a female voice? Not that it matters, just curious.

That doesn't reek of faith and pride as so much insecurity. Why would someone speaking a different language call said house to begin with?

But don't they all.

Let's see. What do we know about this phone person? She speaks English. She thinks people in the United States ought to speak English, which she thinks is our national language. She wants us to know that U.S. soldiers died for our freedom and Jesus died for our sins. She likes chocolate breakfast cereal. And she sounds fat. Hmmm. Ah, I get it! She needs a good recipe (in English) for Death by Chocolate cake. And here I just thought she was crazy at first.

The further north you go the more insane mixed w/ ignorance you get Kate. Fortunately all of Colorado Springs is not like this. I experienced a similar answering machine call on my job in the same geographic area. First I became offended and then I felt pity for this male person. Just think about it....all the people who call him or her know immediately how ignorant they are? It's like someone walking around a mall yelling I am a big fat idiot!
