Hate to say it, but the original version is better... and would make sense.

Jim, actually the "original" version was by Neil Diamond. Then the Monkees did the famous cover (I think Diamond gave it to them or the Monkees promoters bought it for them).
But yeah, the original was better with no offense intended towards Smash Mouth.

JPF - I know Neil wrote the song, but I don't think he recorded it. Neil wrote a lot of their songs.
