Serenity (Equality) Now!

Here's a sentence I never thought I'd write: Prepare for a good time this weekend at Tampa Pitcher Show.

Are you a fan of Serenity - the movie continuation of Firefly? Me neither. However, several people love this genre so let me break it down for you. Apparently, Firefly is a series created by the same person who gave us Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Ring any bells?

Come on, green demons are kinda hot.

At any rate, Serenity will be showing at Tampa Pitcher Show this Saturday, June 24th at 1:30pm. Tickets are $10.50 and all profits go to the charity Equality Now. So if you're goth and into chicks - go wild with like-minded folks this weekend in North Tampa.

Make Meryl proud.

Gorram Firefly hater...

Firefly is inspired. Give it a shot. If you want to give it a shot, I have the DVDs.

Does that mean I get to meet you? Oh yes, let's exchange DVDs at the tot lot and I'll definitely sit through fantasy schlop in order to say I got to meet you face to face. You name the date and time. I got eight days left.

Think you can watch 10.5 hours in 8 days?

Kate, I wouldn't expect Goth girls at the Serenity event... Serenity/Firefly is basically is a mix of Sci-Fi and Westerns. Think of Star Wars mixed in with Bonanza or something. No, that doesn't mean you should expect Jedi geeks at the film either... But Firefly creator Joss Wheldon does inspire his fanbase with his shows.

You'll f'n LOVE Nathan Fillion. THink of Harrison Ford mixed in with Dennis Quaid and a bit of Tommy Lee Jones...

I went with Goth because my sister-in-law likes this stuff and she's into Goth. Perhaps the show has crossover appeal? I'll try to keep an open mind.

Yeah, Cross over appeal is the truth.

I originally rented the movie without knowing the show and it bugged me not understanding what was going on (they jump in quick). I watched it again after watching the only season of Firefly and now rank "Serenity" up there with some of the best sci fi movies...

I started out skeptical as well. The series has a pervasive sense of being in a large extended family, by and large very good writing, and a gritty realism that's lost on most Sci-Fi.

Besides, the fans call themselves "Browncoats" and we can be a little rabid about our 13 episodes. I just bought the box set, and I'm out at the screening (after the St. Pete parade that is)
