I will not miss...

Pathetic, really.

BTW to previous post-er, Linda Blair is quite a wonderful person... big animal lover. I'm thinking some of the characters she's placed (Exorcist, no?) are evil...

Why do liberals always assume the confederate flag is a racist symbol? That is exactly why the South is now red instead of blue and we run elitist liberal candidates like John Kerry and wonder why we lose.

I am a Democrat, I am not proud of our country's racist past and its link to slavery. I am however proud of those southernors who fought and died for their ideals, 99% of which had absolutely nothing to do with slavery.

I wonder - which ideals are you referring to?

Careful, your ignorance is showing. The so-called "southern pride" didn't rear its ugly head until the 50s and 60s when black folks started to demand equal rights. That's when the dixie flag made its way into the public domain. If this was really southern pride and not a racist reaction to civil rights laws - why didn't people wave these flags proudly from the very end of the Civil War - 1860s or so instead of waiting almost 100 years?

Don't peddle your bullsh*t here. We know better.

Hmmmm....lets think about why southerners weren't waving their flags at the end of the Civil War.

At the end of the war they were a humiliated, defeated society.

The vast majority of southerners were not wealthy enough to own slaves and did not go to war to keep slavery as an institution in the South. They went to war to protect, their rights, freedoms, and most of all their families.

Maybe you should go to a NASCAR race and ask a few people why they fly their confederate flags. They will tell you they are proud to be from the South. They are proud of their anscestors. They are also proud of the sport of NASCAR which has its roots in the South.

Maybe if more liberals would understand these people, instead of calling them ignorant, they might put down the flag of the GOP and come back to the Democratic party.

I agree that Dems need to understand the southern rural voter in order to bring them back. I do. However, I wish more southerners *understood* their history. And a flag that made its return to public form nearly 100 years after the Civil War and at the same time civil rights were starting to be restored has less to do with southern pride and more to do with a racist philosophy. You can sell it any way you like - obviously it worked. It just won't work here.

I'd like to ask those who feel a pride in that flag - why? Rebels were traitors. These same people who denounce the Dixie Chicks for speaking out against the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES are showing pride in ancestors who not only did the same thing, but worse - took up arms against his soldiers.

I know. I know. It's easier for them to just wave a flag and not understand sh*t about it. I know.
